Abstract

The objective of the work was to analyze in national and international literature greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from food miles in short and long food supply chains and to discuss the main social, economic and environmental effects in relation to sustainable development. The methodology consisted of searching three national and international journal databases: Web of Science, CAPES Journal Portal and Google Scholar, from June to August 2023, using keywords. The results showed that from the point of view of greenhouse gas emissions linked to food miles, the literature is controversial and still inconclusive. Although, in short chains, their economic and social effects on the environmental ones seem to stand out. This finding highlights an open field for developing research in Brazil; to find out which type of food chain emits the most carbon, in terms of food movements through the national logistics sector.
