Spatial patterns of agricultural production in Maranhão, Tocantins, Piauí and Bahia (MATOPIBA).

Matopiba is the agricultural frontier that was created with the objective of expanding agricultural activities in Brazil, through the incentive of infrastructure policies, agricultural activities in Matopiba were consolidated. The creation of this region resulted in the modification of the landscape, such as the change of natural vegetation to areas of agricultural activities and consequently the change of the dynamics of production and organization of this territory. The spatial organization of agricultural production occurs differently for each type of agriculture. Therefore, this work aims to identify and discuss the spatial patterns of agricultural production in Matopiba. To understand how the spatial organization of productive activities occurs, methods of cluster analysis were used, specifically the Getis-Ord local statistic to point out the main products of each type of agriculture, considering the 337 municipalities of Matopiba. The results pointed out that the most representative productions were of products with greater acceptance in the foreign market. Furthermore, the family and non-family agriculture establishments denoted different spatial patterns of highlighted products. It can be concluded that the economic activities that presented the greatest prominence in the value of production of the non-family farmer were soybean, corn, cotton, and cattle raising, but that the family farming production groups corroborated the greater diversification.
