Global health in graduate nursing programs in Brazil
contemporary challenges
Abstract
The study tried to identify and analyze the presence of the global health theme in academic activities of graduate nursing programs in Brazil in the current days. It’s an exploratory-descriptive study, with a mixed approach, in which data were collected from the program’s websites and analyzed based on inferences supported by a theoretical framework relevant to the topic. Of the 79 programs evaluated by the Nursing area, only eight offer disciplines that address the theme of global health. The themes addressed in the eleven disciplines surveyed are related to public policies and practices or nursing care; two of them are aimed at Portuguese-speaking countries, five at Latin American countries (or border regions) and only one is dedicated to the topic of the pandemic. Despite the importance of the topic, especially as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, global health has not yet received due importance in the context of postgraduate nursing. The results presented indicate the need to strengthen the theme of global health for Brazilian Nursing.
