Land use and property rights a diagnosis in the Northeast region

As the sustainability of agricultural production is a recurring theme in the agenda of agricultural economics and the economy of natural resources, this study aims to analyze, based on data from the 2006 and 2017 agricultural census, whether there is in fact a positive relationship between the right to property and land use, and therefore land ownership, the only condition for soil conservation in the states of northeastern Brazil. The methodology used deals with the use of the Z statistic test of proportions, thus making a comparison between the two censuses, observing data related to the condition of the producer and the type of agricultural practice of conservation employed. The results showed that this relationship, with some exceptions, is non-existent, having over time greatly reduced the use of these practices regardless of the condition of the producer.
